Nichols Expeditions leads walking, hiking, trekking, camping and multi-adventure tours in Africa - Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya, Bhutan, Arizona's Canyon de Chelly, Alaska's Brooks Range, Machu Picchu in Peru, the Galapagos Island of Ecuador and Costa Rica. Mild to wild, our adventure travel vacations will take you walking through Costa Rica's tropical rainforests, hiking with wildlife in the Galapagos and Kenya, trekking in the Peruvian Andes or hiking in the pristine wilderness of Alaska.

We offer several styles of tours. On Walking Tours you'll carry a light daypack and your baggage will be transported to your hotel. Hiking and Trekking Tours involve day hikes with light packs, tent camping accommodations, and your baggage is carried by porter, mule or raft depending on the tour.

Arizona Hiking in Canyon de Chelley takes us to a vast area of red-walled canyons with cliff dwellings and Indian rock art. From our camp, Navajo guides will lead hikes to prehistoric Anasazi and historic Navajo sites, teach us about their different ceremonies and share traditional songs and stories.

Bhutan Cultural Tour and Trek - Bhutan is a trekker’s paradise and our tour is scheduled in late fall to give us the best chance to see the high Himalayan peaks. The first portion of our tour will be an immersion into Bhutan’s history, culture and lifestyle. Accompanied by a knowledgeable guide, we will do several day hikes and visit a number of Bhutan’s most important sights. Then we begin a 6-day camping trek on the spectacular Druk Path. This moderately strenuous trek is supported by pack animals and takes us through thick alpine forests and groves of dwarf rhododendrons. Our Bhutan Tour is the perfect blend of cultural visits and mountain trekking, and Chuck and Judy will accompany the tour.

Africa - Uganda and Rwanda - Gorilla and Chimp Tracking Wildlife Safari - This exclusive African wildlife safari is designed for a small group of adventurers who enjoy hiking, watching wildlife, meeting local people and photography. The destinations we have selected for this safari will offer a fantastic assortment of wildlife and the best chance to see some of more rare species found in this special region of Africa.

Our African Wildlife Safari in Kenya combines big game viewing and great hiking, too! This is an active African vacation for those who don't want to be cooped-up in a land rover all week. We'll be treated to unique lodgings, great food, lots of wildlife and a trek with Samburi tribesmen.


The Galapagos Islands Wildlife Tour is one of our most popular trips. We'll be living aboard a comfortable yacht and cruising the archipelago from island to island. Daily walking and snorkeling journeys will bring us up close to an array of unique, indigenous animals - giant tortoises, blue footed boobies, curious marine iguanas and playful sea lions.


Peru, Hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is your chance to visit several of Peru's most spectacular Inca ruins. All of our camps are in stunning locations and porters carry our camping gear, freeing us to hike with a daypack and camera. We also can provide custom itineraries and tours that include hotel accommodations without camping.

France, Walking Tours in the Dordogne, Provence, Loire and Burgundy - we offer self guided walking tours in France. This is a perfect way to experience the small villages, exquisite countryside and magnificent cuisine and wines of the region.

Italy Walking Tours in Tuscany, Umbria and the Pilgrim's Way from the Alps to Rome - we offer self guided walking tours in Italy. You can choose from 1 - 8 week long portions of the Pilgrim's Way (Via Francigena) that begins in the Alps on the border of Italy and continues all the way to Rome. We also offer walking tours in the countryside of Tuscany and Umbria.

Spain Walking Tours in the Picos de Europa and the Costa Brava - we offer self guided walking tours in Spain. Choose from a tour in the spectacular mountains that are near the coast of Northern Spain or the Costa Brava that combines the vineyards and coastline north of Barcelona.

Alaska Hiking and Rafting in the Brooks Range is your invitation to join us in the "Land of the Midnight Sun," high above the Arctic Circle on the Noatak River. We've combined hiking with rafting to explore the remote valleys and peaks of this vast, untouched mountain region in its full summer glory.

Alaska Camp Denali Wilderness Lodge is a remote wilderness lodge that lays in the shadow of Mount McKinley in the heart of Denali National Park. Lodging is provided in individual cabins that offer a spectacular view of Mt. McKinley. Daily activities include wildlife observation, hikes led by naturalists, canoeing, fishing and biking.
